LOL - LEC: The main novelties of the new competitive format that arrives in Europe by 2023

Worlds

Europe will have a new competitive format next year. Riot Games announced important changes in the maximum European competition of League of Legends, LEC, in which the competition will be divided into three splits, and we will have less good than one to the detriment of better than three and five.

In this way, rumors published by Anonymous months ago are confirmed. The League, in this way, will gain more attractive for the viewer and will reward those teams that best play with more games, while those who are not at their best will be relegated to the background in the crack.

Competition format

The League is going to be distributed as follows along three Splits:

  • Winter Spring (three weeks of regular phase from January to February and the playoffs)
  • Spring split (three weeks of regular phase from March to April and playoffs. The winner will play the MSI in May)
  • Summer Split (three weeks of regular phase from June to July, plus the playoffs. The teams will regularly go to the final phase and therefore will have more options to play the World Cup)
  • LEC season Finals (the four best teams of the season, including the three Split winners, will be measured in better five in search of glory)

Regular season

In each of the three Splits there will be three super weeks corresponding to these three weeks of competition. Each team will be measured once, the best of one, before its rivals, so having a bad week can condemn you to have a bad position for the next phase or stay out of it.

The GSL format, in detail

We will see this format once the regular season ends, both in the best of three when there are eight teams, and in the best five, when there are four. This is quite simple. Each classified set will have two opportunities to move from phase or reach the grand final of the competition. If you lose one of these, you will go from the lower part of the painting, while if you continue winning you will have any advantage with the opponents that have to climb from the Lower Bracket.

If you lose twice you will be eliminated, and you will have no option to get further to the tournament. This was a format highly demanded by the community, and that could implement in the future in the World Cup, giving options to teams that have player and can demonstrate their domain in the crack, or that they have fallen on the same side of the two picture of the two stronger equipment and if or if one has to go home.

Final phase

Once the best of three exceed, the four best teams of each Split will see the faces in five-map series. Winning two qualifiers you will play the final, while if you lose two, you will stay out.

The champions of each of these Splits will automatically assured, a place for the final phase of the season. Once this ends, the places given by the region for the Worlds will be known by the points that have added throughout the year. If a team wins the three Splits, it will go directly to the World Cup, although you will have to play by Seed in this final phase.
