Guardians of the Holiday Special Canon Galaxy? Answered
Given the amount of specials, ramifications and press releases that have been made around the MCU in recent years, it is understandable that you begin to have doubts about what canon is or not. After all, the references to the Multiverse mischief have not lacked that they could make everything be part of the established timeline, but that have not yet been confirmed in one way or another. As such, it is likely to have a hot question after seeing the last special: is it the Canon of the Special Christmas of Guardians of the Galaxy?
Well, after investigating a little, we have an answer for you.
Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special Canon for the UCM? Answered
We have good news for you: The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is in fact Canon for the MCU.
This was confirmed by James Gun, the director of the special and the director of the Guardians of the Galaxy itself, through Twitter in August. In a tweet that responded to a fan consultation, he confirmed that the Holiday Special would serve as an epilogue of the group's adventures in Phase 4 of the MCU. This would mean that Holiday Special takes place after Thor: Love and Thunder and before the third guard of the Galaxy, whose launch is scheduled for the next two years.
This explains why Thor does not see the Guardians of the Galaxy at the beginning of the special, and why Zamora has not yet met with them so far. Similarly, the team that is in Nowhere is more relevant to the largest plot of movies.
Hopefully this is clarified whether the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is Canon or not. To get more information about the special, we have other explanatory guides that cover topics such as where Zamora is, who is Cosmos and whether there is a final loan scene. We also have many other articles related to the broader MCU, which can be found below.
