Eintracht Frankfurt: Ridings in Seville in front of EL
Dozens of fans of Eintracht Frankfurt and the Glasgow Rangers attacked each other shortly before the Europa League final in Sevilla in southern Spanish.
At around 6 p.m. they had thrown themselves at the center of the city with chairs of the street cafes, bottles and other objects, the local newspaper "Diario de Sevilla" reported.
In a video you could see how brawls came about and people lying on the ground were also kicked. Nothing became known of arrests at first. The opposing groups retired when the police arrived.
five Eintracht fans arrested
Five Eintracht fans had previously been arrested. According to the police, they were part of a group of 200 German followers who are said to have attacked Scottish fans near the cathedral in the center of the city. The police confirmed corresponding reports of Spanish media on request.
The German fans are said to have thrown at the officials with flares, tables and bottles. Accordingly, they are accused of disruption to public order and aggression.
police warned of "serious problems"
The responsible police chief Juan Carlos Castro had warned of "serious problems" shortly before these first riots. For the final, around 150,000 fans were expected in Seville, 100,000 from Scotland and 50,000 from Germany.
"This is outrageous," said Castro. "These are too many people with too much alcohol, most of them without admission ticket for the game. And there are many construction sites in the city. All of this can lead to serious problems." 5500 security forces were used for the final. Castro spoke of the "most difficult game of the past few years" in the Andalusian metropolis.
Each club received a contingent of 10,000 cards each for the final. The Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán offers space for only about 44,000 spectators. Most of the fans traveled from Germany and Scotland therefore followed the final in front of big screens in fan zones and in the Cartuja Stadium or in pubs.
