Tennis: Daniil Medvedev threatens to miss Wimbledon
Daniil Medvedev could miss Wimbledon. The reason is that the government of the United Kingdom may not participate in Russian or Belarusian athletes, which do not expressly face the attack on Ukraine.
Medvedev, currently occupied 2nd World Ranking, threatens the next bad news to the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells. UK Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston calls for Russian and Belarusian athletes a clear public position against Vladimir Putin and his attack on Ukraine.
The government will not allow athletes from Russia and Belarus, if they do not clearly express or even have connections to the respective governments or leaderships.
Medvedev held back so far, which concerns a statement on the majority of Russia. He only wishes "peace around the world," but also explained that it was "difficult" to position himself in the current situation.
According to a report of the times, representatives of all four major tournaments were currently working on creating rigorous rules, pointing to dealing with Grand Slam participants from Russia and Belarus.
Wimbledon: No athletes under Russian flag?
Huddleston already said to English media already: "Many countries have decided not to allow any relevant athletes to events. I found it good to let a Russian athlete under Russian flag? No."
