Wow: New is always better! Or maybe not?

If we look at the past patches and expansion, then quickly realize that the developers have tried a lot in terms of features. We had the artefact weapons in Legion, Essences and Azerit armor in BFA, pacts, soul gangs and media in Shadowlands. Some of them worked halfway, other was introduced as a non-nail because again other of the features did not want to ignite. But one thing has all the features together - after the end of the respective extension they are history. In all cases, the developers have put more or less work in something, which disappears after a short time in the sinking.

ALL MAJOR FEATURES Coming In Patch 9.2 - Everything You Can Do in Shadowlands LAST BIG PATCH

As long as ever new features come who replace the old ones, that's not really bad, you might think. Because the developers have the opportunity to learn from the previous features each time and make it better. But would not it make sense if the developers would stay at a feature instead, and it would be... Well... over time to make a good feature?

NEW does not always have to be better

Many of the best features in Wow (Buy Now) were not right from the first day in the condition we know today. The first version of mythical-plus dungeons was half a balancing catastrophe, many old animal sets were little outrageous and also the talent matrices of the first days were barely thoughtful and offered very little individualization of their own character.

Over time, however, the developers have put a lot of work pure and today such features are no longer indispensable from the game. The same applies, for example, for things such as enchantment or today's system of gemstones. Compared with previous extensions, these are very much structured and understandable today. Media are well offered to whereabouts, , for example, as glyphs and also the artifact weapons could certainly maintain and expand with a portion of creativity in terms of Lore.

Planning in the long run

However, the developers with all the features mentioned above had already decided before their implementation that they should only play a role for each extension - and accordingly they were designed. A continuation in later addons would have needed a lot of additional work for adjustments.

Wow: New is always better! Or maybe not? (2) Source: time instead, and that's probably not only I wish, it would be a great idea to make upcoming features again so that you can save them in doubt. The developers could look at how well or poorly the respective feature arrives and only decide whether to go out again or maybe retain with some adjustments and integrated as a fixed component into the game. I am sure that the developers regret it in retrain that, for example, the artefact weapons with the end of BFA have been more or less unnecessarily banished for all times out of the game.

Boring in the long run?

On the other hand, of course, this can also turn into the negative. If the developers are only focusing on perfecting existing features and to adapt steadily to new extensions, then the variety is naturally rather on the track. Because, even if many of the Shadowlands features do not really please players, they ensure that the different extensions always feel different.

If every extension would be equipped with the same features and would only differ from the story, then sometime, bored at and some smarter man would write a column over why the developers are only focusing on existing systems and doing nothing new. So there is to find a golden middle ground.

In my eyes, that would be if the developers in the future are actually releasing the back door for new features, not to ship them away after expansion. Something could certainly take into account in the design. If Feature A is poorly, then it is left out of reason xy at the end of the extension, on the other hand, it depends well, then we turn the story a little bit and integrate it into the entire game.

What do you think about the flood of features and systems that are thrown us with every extension around the ears? Do you find the variety well or would you prefer that the developers break less and focus more on perfecting the existing systems? To home page to the gallery
